Renegade created The Living Room, a social networking site that allows those affected by cancer to experience the same level of support and camaraderie fostered at Gilda’s Club meetings from the comfort of their own living rooms. Renegade conducted one-on-one, in-depth interviews to assess perceptions, behaviors, and needs of those living with cancer, their friends and family, teens with cancer and medical professionals. The interviews provided crucial information that helped shape the websites’ warm, humorous tone, extensive search capabilities (age, cancer type, sex, stage, children), stringent privacy functions, and emphasis on forming lasting connections and strong community bonds. By listening to the thoughts and opinions of those directly affected by cancer, The Living Room has managed to take the sense of human connection achieved at real-world Gilda's Club meetings and replicate it in the online world.
